Dear Friends,
Happy New Year. I am very pleased to be joining both churches on a part time and temporary basis
but hopefully for long enough to get to know you.

I am no stranger to the area and have previously lived in both Chirk and Llangollen when I taught at
Ysgol Dinas Bran for 23 years. Since Ordination in 2003 I have served in Wrexham,
Montgomeryshire and Alyn and Borderlands Mission Areas. For many years I have held diocesan
portfolios including Ecumenism, which is useful as I’m looking after a shared church with our RC
friends, lay commissioned ministries, (Worship Leaders and Pastoral Assistants), Transition into
Mission Areas and I am now Diocesan Director of Ministry and Chancellor of St Asaph Cathedral. I
have two children and three grandchildren 3 years and under.

Unfortunately, some of the church activities I am used to leading are curtailed by Covid but I look
forward to working with St Mary’s school and developing children and family work. Covid
restrictions are the same as over Christmas, namely:

Alert Level 2 Restrictions from 26th December 2021 Each church should update their
risk assessment to comply with 2 metre social distancing. There are no strict limits on
numbers attending for indoor or outdoor worship activities including life events – the only
limit is the safe capacity of the building to maintain social distancing.

  1. Use of buildings for other community activities/events is limited to a cap of 30 people
indoors or 50 people outdoors (whilst maintaining social distancing).
  2. Face coverings must be worn for all indoor activities.
  3. Singing remains permissible (with face coverings) but you should consider mitigation
measures such as limiting numbers of songs/hymns or singing outdoors.

Upcoming dates/events:

Tuesday 11 th at 7pm: Induction of Fth. John by Bishop Peter’s at St Mary’s. All welcome.
Wednesday 19 th at 2pm: Joint Council Meeting in Church Hall.
Services for 16 th January (Epiphany 3) 9.30am Holy Communion, 11am Morning Prayer in Penylan.
